The most amazing compact table and chairs

Isn't this table and chair set the strangest you have ever seen? Looking at the design it does seem very weird, but also very practical. If I had a money tree and five good looking barefoot friends who only shopped at Banana Republic I would personally buy the set myself. I'm guessing Sweden... or perhaps Denmark. I'm almost certain they're not from Nigeria.

Anyhoo.. answer me this if you will:

Is the design weird?
Do cuffed pants look weird on men?
Did Jessica Simpson really eat a whole herd of water buffalo?

I think it's a pretty clever invention. If you have a clever idea too and you'd like me to blog about please e-mail it to me. And as always, if you're a budding inventor yourself and need more info on prototypes or how to sell your ideas click here!

It's Like Bathing In The Forest!: The Moss Mat

by danni 1/30/2009 8:41:00 AM

moss-mat.jpg

Moss is like nature's carpet that never has to be vacuumed. So why not bring a little of the outdoors in with a mossy bathmat?

Nguyen La Chanh's ingenious design is made from a decay-free foam called plastazote, and populated with three varieties of moss: ball, island, and forest. Maintenance required for this little patch of green is limited, as the moss thrives off of the humidity released from daily bathroom rituals.

I want one. I just question how much traffic the mat can stand. With the amount of people passing through my bathroom on a Friday night it may only last the weekend.

Thanks to Joy for pointing me to this. Joy doesn't need a bathmat because she's an elf princess and only bathes in the sacred fountain of beauty, which has naturally moss-lined banks.

I think it's a pretty clever idea. If you have a clever idea too and you'd like me to blog about please e-mail it to me. And as always, if you're a budding inventor yourself and need more info on prototypes or how to sell your ideas click here!

Yes Please!: Water Powered Jetpacks

by danni 1/30/2009 8:24:00 AM
I want one. Yesterday. Ooh, and a firetruck to power it. That way when I have children I can tell them, "Children, in the golden age before you were born mummy used to ride a water-powered jetpack to the liquor store. Now she drives a minivan. Someday you will understand the sacrifices she's made for you. And also, will you be mummy's designated driver tonight?

Youtube

If you own a water powered jet-pack call me right this minute or if you have a clever idea and you'd like me to blog about please e-mail it to me. And as always, if you're a budding inventor yourself and need more info on prototypes or how to sell your ideas click here!

A Really, Really Bad Idea - MP3 Hand Grenade

by danni 1/30/2009 8:15:00 AM

mp3-grenade-1.jpg

Ok, I've had a lot of really bad ideas in my life. And followed through with most of them. But that's neither here nor there, because one thing I never did was mod an inactive grenade into an MP3 player. Inside, modder Matt stuffed a 2GB Sansa Clip MP3 player. Hey Matt, you ever hear the story about that one guy that suspected that other guy of being a terrorist and called Homeland Security on him? Yeah, what's your address?

mp3-grenade-2.jpg

Matt stuffed the innards of a 2GB Sansa Clip into the grenade. This is the original, cute and airport safe Sansa Clip shell:

The default shell looks boring now, but at least it’s more practical, plus it’s easier to load songs into it this way. But I guess we can’t expect people who stuff things into grenades to be practical. Maybe Rambo would want one of this.

Although the current set-up is already functional according to Matt, he also says that he still has to wire up the buttons and then weld the whole thing shut. I don’t know, I guess it’s a lot more awesome if I see it in person, but then again if I see someone take this out of his pocket I’ll be outside the blast radius in a heartbeat. I’ll be Usain Bolt. A shrieking, pants-peeing Usain Bolt.

Matt has more pictures of the grenadification on his Flickr site.

If you have a terrible idea too and you'd like me to blog about please e-mail it to me. And as always, if you're a budding inventor with a great invention yourself and need more info on prototypes or how to sell your ideas click here!

One Man is more than enough...

by superuser 1/13/2009 6:40:00 AM

It is said much of the ocean's depths have yet to be explored around the world, and submersible vehicles like the Aqua concept from Yanko Design Studios will definitely help us map out a larger portion of undiscovered territory. (Sadly, it won't help me map out the back of my closet or the bottom of my purse) There are only so many skyscrapers one can build, so who knows - we might end up living underwater in the future instead of the moon. This single occupancy craft is able to sail on and under water using existing standard submersible technology like air to control buoyancy. Aqua also takes a page out of the dolphins' book, featuring a similar aerodynamic form factor that lets you get around without all the drag. Enforcing traffic rules when underwater (and in space) would be pretty hard to do though... and I bet I'd still get a speeding ticket. Curse you AquaPolice!!

I'm lovin' this idea more than I love my 13 shot venti soy hazelnut vanilla cinnamon white mocha with extra white mocha and caramel.

Yesterday... all my troubles seemed so far away

by danni 1/13/2009 6:25:00 AM

shredder-calendar-1.jpg

The Chrono-Shredder is a wall calendar designed by Susanna Hertrich that shreds the days as they pass. It takes a full 24-hours to shred a date.

The Chrono-Shredder is a device that reminds us of the preciousness of our lifetime. It represents the passing of time by shredding the days of the year - printed on a paper roll - at a slow constant rate. To shred one day takes 24 hours. There is no "off"-button. As the seconds pass by, the tattered remains of the past pile up under the device...

Neat! I never have any idea what day it is. All I know is we've got an innauguration coming up -- and then it's my birthday! WOOT!

Here's a picture of the mess the calendar makes.

shredder-calendar-2.jpg

I think it's a pretty clever idea, even if it does make a big old mess. I'll have the house boy clean it up for me. On your kness Romeo!!

I Like Cold Drinks: The Cooper Chiller

by danni 1/5/2009 10:21:00 AM

drink-cooler.jpg

The $50 Cooper Cooler Rapid Beverage Chiller chills a beer down to 43 °F in sixty seconds. So, at the moderate drinking rate of one beer per 45 seconds, you only have 15 seconds of down time until the next beer is ready. Not too shabby. You just fill the thing with ice and water, and presto: it rotates your can, all the while hosing the aluminum bastard down with cold water. Of course, if you're looking to save yourself a little money, just plan ahead and put your beer in the fridge. You doofus!

And don't forget- if you come across a stellar invention that you want me to blog about please e-mail it to me. And as always, if you're a budding inventor yourself and need more info on prototypes or how to sell your ideas click here!

D+Caf Strips Detect Amount Of Caffeine In Your Coffee

by danni 1/5/2009 9:53:00 AM

caf-strips.jpg

Some people drink decaf coffee. These people, given normal coffee, will go apeshit, bouncing off the walls and breaking things. Given espresso, they will spontaneously human combust and create a black (coffee) hole that will smell like fresh roasted beans and suck many an oblivious barista into its odoriferous depths. That's why it's important they never drink regular coffee or a Red Bull. To keep the rest of the world safe from these people, somebody developed D+Caf strips.

D+caf test strips are simply little strips of paper coated with antibodies that tell if you a beverage is properly decaffeinated, turning up blue lines if it's got more than 20mg of caffeine per 6oz serving. Even modern decaffeination procedures can't remove every single trace of caffeine, but between 20 and 30 percent of coffee and tea drinks "contain unacceptably high levels of caffeine" according to the strip's maker, Silver Lakes Research.

A box of 20 strips costs $10 and I really wish they were Tylenol strips becuase I'm still hung over from New Year.
